ROCHESTER, N.Y. — According to www.democratandchronicle.com, as the intense cold from the recent polar vortex receded and temperatures began climbing Feb. 1st, carwashes were expecting business to really pick up.
“We’re looking at [staffing] now, starting this afternoon,” Jeff Gold, owner of Buckman’s Car Wash, said Friday after his five locations were shut down Wednesday and Thursday amid the polar vortex. “First, because of the safety of our employees; second because of the safety of our customers and their vehicles. And third, [to protect] our equipment.”
In Rochester, the seven Royal Car Wash locations were also closed Wednesday and Thursday, and all Delta Sonic locations in the area and beyond were closed Thursday, the article continued.
The goal was to bring in all available staff on Saturday and temporary help as needed, Gold said.
However, even when the temperature reached up to 11 degrees late Friday morning, business was picking up so much at Evergreen Car Wash that Manager Denise Allen did not have enough time to talk with the Democrat & Chronicle, only saying that the most important thing for Saturday would be “just making sure we’ve got enough people on.”
Royal Car Wash on Monroe Ave. was also “operating at full capacity” that Friday, according to Danny Daniele, whose family owns the chain.
“Being closed two days caused a lot of pent-up carwash frustration,” Daniele said with a laugh.
