Latest recall potentially affects millions

WASHINGTON — The U.S. auto safety agency has raised the number of recalled vehicles to at least 7.78 million.

WASHINGTON — The number of vehicles recalled because of faulty airbags has been raised to at least 7.78 million, according to USA Today.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration urged owners to get their cars fixed as a matter essential to personal safety, said the article.

Ten automakers are involved in the recall: BMW, Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru and Toyota, noted the article.

The recall affects mostly older models sold or ever registered in areas with high humidity like Southern Florida and Puerto Rico, stated the article.

The affected vehicles were installed with faulty Takata airbags that when inflated “can tear loose from their brackets, blowing pieces of their housings – shrapnel, in effect – into the faces and chests of occupants,” explained the article.

Honda reported two deaths caused by the airbags years ago, reported the article.
