NEW YORK — Workers at a carwash in the Bronx voted this week to unionize, but the management team is contesting many of the votes, the New York Daily News reported.

The Dec. 11 story stated that employees at the Sunny Day Carwash voted 14-6 to join the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union. The vote included a group of workers that say they were wrongly fired after staging a walkout over wages.

Workers sue owner for $500,000 in damages

The fired workers have been picketing and trying to get drivers to boycott the wash for weeks. They walked out on Nov. 11 after not getting paid for two weeks. Owner Frank Roman paid back wages to the fired workers, but he hasn’t responded to demands that employees be allowed to come back to work.

At least 13 of the union votes are in contention, and the National Labor Relations Board will need to weigh in before the vote becomes official. “Our lawyers are confident this will in the end be a victory,” a union spokesperson said in the story.
