PHOENIX — Danny Hendon, former owner of Danny’s Family Car Wash, was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison and 12 months of home detention for illegal hiring practices, according to azcentral.com.
Hendon must report to prison on Jan. 20, said the article.
Family members testified in court that Hendon “suffers from Parkinson’s disease and lost virtually everything in a bankruptcy case,” stated the article.

Prosecutors had recommended an 18-month prison sentence and 19 months of home confinement, reported the article. He faced a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
In 2011, the federal government found that 942 of the carwash’s employees did not have the proper documents authorizing them to work in the U.S., noted the article.
Danny’s then told Homeland Security it had let the illegal workers go, but company managers were instructed to rehire them, shared the article.
