BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Many small businesses are planning on a busy holiday shopping season by encouraging consumers to shop local, according to Business News Daily.

According to a study, consumers who knew about Small Business Saturday spent more with independent merchants on the day than those who did not, noted the article. Sales are forecast to grow this year.
