ENGLEWOOD, OH — The custard stand profit center connected to a carwash here was forced to close a few weeks early after a car plowed into the shop, the Dayton Daily News reported.
The Sept. 10 story stated that the accident occurred when the car’s driver either fell asleep or had a medical emergency. The car jumped a median and ran over a street sign, a tree, a curb and two wooden benches before it crashed into the custard stand.
“It was a good thing it was the first day of school, or kids would have been sitting on those benches,” Owner Cindy Gress said in the story. “Suddenly, it sounded like an explosion. The freezer door flew open and lights came popping out of the sockets.”
The shop should reopen in March, and it normally closes at the end of September. Gress had hoped to have the custard machine repaired two weeks ago, but back-ordered parts made the goal impossible.
Though summer custard sales are over, the shop is currently selling a few sealed treats from the freezers and taking orders for special holiday desserts. The store makes holiday custards in peppermint, eggnog, pumpkin pie, vanilla, chocolate, lemonade, peppermint bars and homemade Buckeyes.
