Burners return from desert, business booms for washes

RENO, Nev. — Now that the Burning Man festivities have ended, event goers are turning to carwashes in the area to help remove the desert dust caked on their vehicles.

RENO, Nev. — Burners returning from this year’s Burning Man event are increasing business for local carwashes, according to KOLO-TV.

Now that the festivities have ended, event goers are turning to carwashes in the area to help remove the desert dust caked on their vehicles, stated the article.

Employees at Franktown Hand Car Wash have been busy at work, cleaning exteriors and interiors of a vast array of vehicles, reported the article, from cars and mini vans to RVs and mini buses.

“It’s been pretty busy — crazy busy actually,” said Marisol Flores, a cashier at Franktown, in the article.

More than 300 cars came through the hand wash on Sunday morning, reported Flores in the article.

“It’s been like twice almost three times as [busy as] a normal weekend,” she added in the article.

For many burners, the desert dust will cause them to lose their rental car deposits, reported the article, so they are willing to dish out a few extra bucks to ensure clean cars.

“We kind of zipped over [to the wash], and they’re like doing the inside, outside [of the car and] making it picture perfect so we can drop it off,” stated Judi Cooper a burner from San Rafael, California, in the article.

Battling the alkaline dust is not an easy task, noted the article, and may require more time and money.

“It’s hard for [event goers] to get [the dust] off because it’s so fine and it sticks to everything,” said Flores in the article. “Sometimes we have to go through the tunnel a couple of times.”
